“I find the classes excellent and the instructors are willing to help you whatever your level of ability.”
“I was recommended to do Pilates by my wife and a physiotherapist. This was after I had compacted and damaged two discs in my lower pack. I was in a lot of pain and had restricted mobility. I do endurance swimming and was unable to participate in that sport.
The Pilates instructors have a passion for their discipline. I find the classes excellent and the instructors are willing to help you whatever your level of ability. The core basics of the exercise remains the same, but different teachers have their own slant on delivery which keeps it fresh. I learnt that Joseph Pilates who developed the exercise regime did it not only for general fitness and mobility but to help people recovery from injury.
It has made a marked difference to my mobility. It has strengthened my core muscles, protecting my back and greatly improving my flexibility. I am now back participating in other sport. I am going to continue with Pilates as I feel it is complementary to sports activity, assisting in maintaining flexibility and mobility.” Colin Jaggs
“Since doing the classes I’ve noticed that my whole body feels much better, more flexible even after a few months.”
“I decided to start at the studio as the venue was near to where I live and had free parking. Also when I contacted you for a free trial you came back to me really quickly. You were also really friendly and positive.
I had a few worries about starting classes as previously I’d had really bad back problems. This resulted in Sciatica (so painful) through not having any fluid in a couple of discs in my lower back. Although I was attending Pilates classes at another venue I wondered if Yoga would be too much for my back. However I spoke to Paula who put me at ease and I soon realised that there were others who also have similar issues.
The best thing about doing yoga classes is not having back pain. Since doing the classes I’ve noticed that my whole body feels much better, more flexible even after a few months. It’s really toned my hips and bottom in fact I’ve gone down a dress size which makes you feel better about yourself.
It’s hard sometimes but Paula always reminds you to come out of the moves when its right for you and always reassures you. It’s definitely paid dividends I feel so much better in myself physically and emotionally and I haven’t had a back pain since joining! However, I do think its key that Yoga is not something you just do every week it’s a way of life.
Thank you Space 2 be I’m definitely in a space I like to be.” Lindsey Stonebridge
“It’s something that has very quickly become an integral part of my life and I know will continue to be. I only wish I’d found it sooner.”
“I’d tried yoga for the first time very recently and felt that it was a good fit for my lifestyle and my health aims, so I was already bought into the concept. I wanted to find a class close to home that was flexible on timings and available every day of the week – to fit around my work. I found Space2Be online and opted to take the free taster class. Booking it was super easy (the booking system is brilliant, very simple to use and makes sure you never forget when you have a class).
The taster class is a great idea. I was a little apprehensive prior to joining, but Paula put me totally at ease on a call before the class. Paula led the class and despite her keeping a very close eye on me as the new joiner, she did it very subtly (so I didn’t actually feel like the new girl on the block) and was made to feel part of the group very quickly. Paula’s style works fantastically for me personally… she is clearly a subject matter expert in yoga and pilates, so knows her stuff and can always offer alternative poses or positions to ensure that everyone is catered for.
I had no worries about starting yoga other than the fact that I’ve come to it quite late in life (50 years old) and suspected I’d be a little too old, a little too inflexible and may not be able to sustain my fitness just through yoga and pilates… How wrong was I!
I’d say the best thing about doing the classes it’s the complete impact the classes have on mind, body and spirit. I have personally experienced the physical impact – I’ve found muscles I didn’t know existed and can feel them becoming stronger every day and better supporting my body; the mental impact is an added and unexpected bonus. I have a very busy life and my mind works at a juggernaut pace, but the minute I step foot in Space2Be everything starts to slow down a little. I find this time is given over solely to me, my breathing, my state of mind, my body and me nurturing all of those during the sessions. It takes some getting used to when you haven’t focused on yourself in this way for a long time… but the benefits are immense.
There are numerous benefits after attending the classes… and not only benefits felt by me, but also experienced by those closest to me and around me:
- I can feel my body getting fitter and stronger after every session
- I use this time to be kind to myself – focus on me and just me for one hour every day… without any guilt!
- My mind is starting to think differently too – accepting what it needs to accept when I can’t influence external factors, but also closing down negative thoughts before they take hold and spiral off into something that brings no quality to my life
- I can relax, genuinely relax, for the first time in a long long time… simply by stopping, connecting with my breathing and focusing on me – sometimes just for 10-20 seconds
- There is little/no chance of injuries that I used to sustain at the gym when I was there
I’m not one for advocating to others what they should do, I believe in everyone to their own… but I cannot recommend yoga and pilates enough – I’d have it on the NHS if government budgets were available. It’s something that has very quickly become an integral part of my life and I know will continue to be. I only wish I’d found it sooner… and listened to my little sister who has been urging me to do yoga for 20 years!” Romy Thorpe
“I love how Pilates de-stresses me, focusing on my breathing techniques while developing flexibility.”
“I had seen ‘The Space 2 Be’ advertised on Facebook and it sounded appealing. I had been considering Pilates for quite some time. It was local and the offer of a free class made my mind up to give it a go. I had nothing to lose. I did feel very anxious at first. I hadn’t exercised in such a long time and was concerned that I couldn’t keep up or would look totally out of place.
I love how Pilates de-stresses me, focusing on my breathing techniques while developing flexibility. Since joining I have noticed a remarkable difference in my fitness levels. I have noticeably fewer aches and pains. I have definitely improved my core strength. Friends and family have also noticed a change in my body shape. Doing Pilates combined with healthy eating I have managed to lose over 2 stone!” Leonie
“I have recommended The Space 2 Be to all who will listen to me!! It has made a huge difference in a short space of time.”
“I attended my first free yoga class in April. I have suffered with lower back pain for the last 10 years and in November of last year I had a trapped sciatic nerve. I had been walking with a slight limp for the previous 4 months due to the nerve, waking up in the morning was the most painful.
I plucked up the courage to attend a yoga class as it was strongly recommended to me, following my first class I woke up the next day and for the first time in 4 months I did not have the pain when I put pressure on my left leg, also my back had eased, I have recommended The Space 2 Be to all who will listen to me!! It has made a huge difference in a short space of time.” Wayne
“My pain is much more manageable now, from someone who found crossing their legs extremely difficult I can now cross them much more easily and I am a lot more flexible.”
“After being diagnosed with osteoarthritis in both my hips, I wanted to be able to manage my condition myself without operations, so after seeking medical advice and looking into different ways that I could help myself I decided on trying pilates.
When I first started the classes I was very optimistic, I didn’t know if I could cope with the pain as other than from what I had read I had no knowledge of pilates, but I so wanted it to work and was willing to give it my all.
For me I have really enjoyed meeting Paula, her positivity in her teaching, the way that she takes time in coming around in class to make sure you are doing things correctly according to your medical condition.
My pain is much more manageable now, from someone who found crossing their legs extremely difficult I can now cross them much more easily and I am a lot more flexible.” Jane
“The level of back pain went within a few weeks, I feel I’m now getting stronger and more flexible with each class.”
“After many years of lower back, wrist and arm injuries my chiropractor recommended me to go yoga and pilates as a lower impact exercise and for general strengthening.
The classes at the studio are designed for all levels of ability so it was made very easy to start a class. The instructors will take time to show you moves one to one if needed.
The level of back pain went within a few weeks, I feel I’m now getting stronger and more flexible with each class.” Ian Duke
“My back is much, much better than it was – it has really helped me improve my overall physical health and has also had a very positive affect on my mental health too.”
“I had been told many years ago by a back specialist that I needed to do yoga to stop my back problems getting worse. I stopped going to classes about seven years or so ago and I decided in January this year that enough was enough and I needed to start classes again for my physical and mental wellbeing. That’s when I came across Paula’s classes online and I haven’t looked back. After spending such a long time away from yoga, I was worried that I would be too rusty and just not very good at it any more. Paula had classes to suit all abilities though so once I started I soon had my confidence back. Sometimes the transformation between before and after the class is amazing. I can often be feeling sluggish and lethargic before a class but afterwards I feel energised and my mood has lightened.
My back is much, much better than it was – so my main reason for attending classes has been fulfilled. But there’s a lot more to it than that. Doing these classes over the past year has really helped me improve my overall physical health and has also had a very positive affect on my mental health too.” Ian
“Overcoming an ongoing pain in my right hand (which I have been left almost unable to use since my diagnosis). I have noticed an increase in my strength all over and I am in a better place with being able to sleep (which was impossible due to the pain previously)”
At first I was very worried about any pain and the feeling of not being able to do the movements but Paula made me feel so at ease that all my worries diminished as soon as I started the first lesson.
The best thing about doing the classes is the feeling of taking positive holistic steps towards getting better and feeling the benefits.
The main benefit I have noticed is overcoming an ongoing pain in my right hand (which I have been left almost unable to use since my diagnosis). I have noticed an increase in my strength all over and I am in a better place with being able to sleep (which was impossible due to the pain previously), hence I feel a lot more positive about life.” Ershen
“Vast improvement in my back (I can do the gardening and housework and go for long walks without suffering pain for the next few days) I feel more energised and confident in myself.”
“I had been having problems with my back for several years and had been told that I should try Pilates or Yoga to strengthen my core and I just kept putting it off, then finally after suffering with a herniated disc I decided that it was about time to do something as I did not want to go through that much pain again.
When I first started I was worried that I wouldn’t be able to do anything and I would struggle and be in pain and that I would look stupid. I had done a few classes somewhere else but I was still dreading my first class but Paula quickly put me at ease, she always gives you different options to the exercise so you can do what is right for you. I am now doing 2 Pilates classes and 2 Yoga classes every week and hate it if I have to miss a class.
The best thing about my classes is that it’s me time, during that hour I can put everything else away and think of nothing else except what I am doing in the class.
The benefits I’ve noticed from doing the classes are that apart from the vast improvement in my back ( I can do the gardening and housework and go for long walks without suffering pain for the next few days) I feel more energised and confident in myself. I feel not only physically fitter but mentally fitter. I wake most mornings with a spring in my step now!!!” Maria
“I am less stressed in my home/work life which helps with a gastro intestinal condition I suffer from. I also feel more flexible and supple which is important as I approach my mid 50s.”
“I have practiced yoga on and off for several years and I really enjoy the combination of stretching toning and relaxation. It’s my time!! However I do find the yoga teacher is critical to the class and the ambience. For the last year or so I have struggled to find a teacher that fulfilled my needs. I attended Paula’s class just by chance and was delighted to have found such a great teacher that leads classes with a variety of poses, provides plenty of instruction and encouragement all in a lovely manner.
I feel Paula delivers the class with such calmness yet makes it varied and offers versions of the exercises to challenge people but also for others too. Since going to Paula’s yoga class I do feel benefits in several areas. I am less stressed in my home/work life which helps with a gastro intestinal condition I suffer from. I also feel more flexible and supple which is important as I approach my mid 50s. Under the instruction and guidance of Paula my yoga practice has definitely developed which I am delighted with.
I can’t wait for my yoga session and wish I could attend more sessions.” Lesley Johnson
“I feel more at peace in myself, more flexible and a lot more fitter.”
“I’d heard so much positive feedback about yoga that I wanted to give it a try. The worry I had was that being completely new to yoga that I would be too far behind other people in the class. However, when I joined the class I found everyone to be very friendly and the class has a beautiful atmosphere.
I have noticed a lot of positive results such as I feel more at peace in myself, more flexible and a lot more fitter. It has benefitted my lifestyle perfectly and helped me understand yoga properly.” Victoria Blake
“I’ve noticed there has been a vast improvement with my lower back pain which has now virtually gone.
I’ve also noticed an increase in fitness and well being, I’ve made new friends and had a definite confidence boost.”
“I had a desire to get fitter and hoped yoga and pilates would help with my lower back pain. I attend classes regularly twice a week and do both yoga and pilates. At first I was worried I wouldn’t be able to do the moves/poses, but now I’ve noticed there has been a vast improvement with my lower back pain which has now virtually gone.
I’ve also noticed an increase in fitness and well being, I’ve made new friends and had a definite confidence boost.” Steve
“My back has never felt better and I can enjoy all the things I used to before my back injury”
“After suffering a debilitating back injury, I wanted to regain flexibility.
Initially I thought I would find yoga boring but I’ve been proved wrong! I really enjoy the chance to relax and unwind and my body has become more flexible than it has ever been.
My back has never felt better and I can enjoy all the things I used to before my back injury.” Carol, Cuffley
“I used to find throughout the day with work I would be all tense and there are techniques I have learnt from yoga that I do when I’m feeling anxious and it helps me physically and mentally.”
“I decided to start yoga because of stressful times at work plus I didn’t want to get sweaty while toning up like running or joining the gym would! When I started yoga I was worried I wasn’t going to be able to do half the positions I couldn’t touch my toes I’ve been going for lessons with Paula for a few years and love every lesson and I can touch my toes now! (Sometimes).
The best thing about the yoga classes is Paula and her ways of teaching… she explains that everybody’s flexibility is different. I love how there are no expectations or judgements and you learn to accept where you are in your lesson/position and not to push too hard, that with time it comes, plus the fact you always end up smiling and enjoying the lesson.
Everyday I notice the benefits from the classes!! I used to find throughout the day with work I would be all tense and there are techniques I have learnt from yoga that I do when I’m feeling anxious and it helps me physically and mentally.” Breda
